Just Another Day on the Rock with Rocco |
| Man, I tell ya, walking Rocco ain't always a picnic. Especially not when we're trying to get down towards the St. George Ferry in the morning rush. He’s a Boxer, all muscle and bounce, thinks every squirrel on Richmond Terrace is a personal challenge. Today, though, was good. Sun was out, not too hot. Remember that brutal summer a couple years back? Like, 2024, I think? We had a heat advisory for weeks. Rocco could barely handle a short loop around Tompkinsville Park without panting like crazy. I worried about his paws on the hot asphalt near Bay Street. Felt like the whole island was melting. Now, late spring, this is nice. We passed the old Stapleton waterfront, Rocco sniffing everything. He’s getting a little older now, almost seven, but still acts like a pup. His energy levels are still through the roof sometimes. I swear, even after a long walk, he'll come home and stare at me like, "What's next?" That’s why I got him that Automatic Laser Pet Toy Interactive a while back. Keeps him busy in the living room while I'm trying to catch a game or just unwind. Best thing I ever bought, honestly. Saves my arms from throwing a ball for an hour straight. Sometimes I just sit on the bench by the ferry, watching the boats go, and Rocco just leans against my leg. He's my shadow. Living here on Staten Island, it’s different. People think it’s not ‘real’ NYC, but they don’t know. This is home. The quiet streets off Victory Boulevard, the smells from the Italian bakeries, the way the light hits the water. It’s got its own vibe. And Rocco, he just gets it. He’s a good dog. A really good dog. Even when he’s dragging me towards every lamppost like it’s the most interesting thing in the world, he’s still the best company a guy could ask for. Yeah, Rocco and me, we’re a team. Just another day in the concrete jungle, Staten Island style. |
