Kodi's Queens Life: More Than Just Walks |
| So, it’s 2026 now, and honestly, some things never change. Me and Kodi, my husky, we still kick it in Astoria. Every morning, early, before the crowds get thick, we're out. He drags me right to Astoria Park, nose to the ground, sniffing everything like it's a new newspaper. The view from there, looking at Manhattan? Never gets old. Even on a cloudy day, it's a reminder you're in the center of it all, even if we’re just across the bridge in our little pocket of Queens. Kodi, he's a handful. Full of energy, always. People see him, all fluffy and big, and they think he's a cuddly teddy bear. Nah, he's a wild thing wrapped in fur. Needs his runs. We go down Ditmars, then zig-zag through the side streets near Steinway, sometimes over to the dog run by Vernon. He loves it, barking at squirrels like they personally offended him. I remember that summer, two years back, 2024 it was. Or was it 2023? Man, time flies. But I remember the sky. It turned this wild, spooky orange-red for days. From those wildfires way up north. The air smelled like a campfire exploded in the city. They told everyone to stay inside, especially if you had breathing issues. Kodi, he was miserable. Pacing the apartment, whining. He needed to run, to burn off that husky power. I felt bad, watching him stare out the window at that smoky mess. That's when I really leaned on the Automatic Laser Pet Toy Interactive. I bought it on a whim, thinking it was just a gimmick, but it became a lifesaver. Kept him chasing that little red dot all over the living room, up and down the hallway. He'd collapse afterward, tired but happy. It wasn't like a real run outside, no, but it was something. It saved my sanity, and his, when the world outside turned into a fog machine. Even now, on rainy days or when I'm just too wiped from work, that laser toy still comes out. He still loves it. It’s part of our routine. Living in a small Queens apartment with a big dog like Kodi, you gotta get creative. It’s not always easy, but honestly, looking at him, fast asleep on his dog bed after a long day of parks and chasing lasers, it’s all worth it. He's my partner, my shadow, my furry, loud alarm clock. Just another day in the concrete jungle with my best friend. |
